St. Gregory the Great

First Reconciliation

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation, or Confession, is celebrated in the spring of Grade 2. Parents attend a Parent Workshop to help them prepare their children for the sacrament. Students are prepared at home, and their lessons are reinforced in their Family Faith Formation sessions. The students and their families come together at the First Reconciliation Mass of Enrollment.

First Reconciliation

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Reconciliation is a Sacrament of Healing, the opportunity for a repentant sinner to receive Christ’s healing and absolution from all of their sins. This sacrament is also called the Sacrament of Confession or Penance.

Penance is also a term that means a task completed by a Christian to show one’s resolve to be a follower of Christ.

In Confession, we have a conversation with our Lord, acknowledge our sins, repent and ask for forgiveness, and restore our relationship with God.

Confession is for Families

One of the most important things you can do to prepare your children for the Sacrament of Confession is to allow your children to see that you yourself go frequently to Confession.

It is good for children to see that Mom and Dad come to Jesus in the sacraments and actively live out humility, understanding the importance of the Sacrament of Forgiveness.

We offer Confessions at St. Gregory the Great Church every Saturday, from 2:30 – 3:45 pm.
