If you have experienced the loss of a family member or friend, we first want to assure you of our prayers and condolences. The priests, deacons, and members of our parish team extend to you and your family our heartfelt sympathy during this time of sorrow.
The funeral rites of the Catholic Church commend the deceased to God, with hope in the resurrection of the dead.
The Catholic Church provides liturgical laws to guide the preparation of funerals for the Catholic faithful. The Church may also provide funerals for those baptized who are enrolled in non-Catholic faith traditions.
Catholic funeral rites include a Vigil Service (Wake), a Funeral Liturgy, and a Rite of Committal (Burial or Interment).
The Church encourages the Funeral Liturgy to be celebrated during Mass. However, when Mass may not be celebrated, the Funeral Liturgy can be carried out in a church or funeral home. It is an act of worship.
Most people at the time of loss work with a funeral director, who will make arrangements on your behalf to schedule the funeral Mass at St. Greg’s.
Someone from our Parish Office will then reach out and contact you after the Mass has been scheduled. The priests and ministers at St. Gregory the Great will aid you in selection of appropriate readings and music for your loved one’s funeral.
Please fill out the Funeral Planning Sheet and bring it with you when you meet with someone from our ministerial team.
Our parish also offers continued support through our Grief and Loss Ministry, which meets on a monthly basis. Please see the Bulletin for upcoming Grief and Loss meetings.
I am the Resurrection and the Life. Those who believe in Me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.

Once you have contacted the funeral home and scheduled the funeral, the priest or Parish Staff will reach out to begin the planning process.
The St. Gregory the Great Funeral Planning Guide is designed for those who are experiencing the loss of a loved one and are planning a funeral at St. Gregory the Great. It contains selections of Scripture readings, Prayers of the Faithful, and music options.
Please make your Scripture and music selections and return the Funeral Planning Sheet to the Parish Office at St. Gregory the Great. One of the priests will contact you to answer any questions you may have and to help finalize your selections.
